Purpose of the Position
Drive Simmons’ value of Put People First by keeping team members safe, building relationships, providing training and support to operations, making team member welfare a priority, onboarding new team members and setting them up to successfully do their job.
Participate as a member of the plant team, collaborating cross-functionally.
Essential Position Responsibilities - This is a Salary Non-Exempt position.
Employee Relations: Drive the Simmons culture of putting people first through training, development, caring for people and guiding our new team members to embrace the Simmons Values.
Floor Presence: Majority of time spent on the production floor interacting with team members, leading training and development initiatives, and ensuring Simmons Values are demonstrated.
Conduct Training Sessions: Facilitate new team member orientation and training with Simmons Values in mind.
Ensure team members are aware of job safety, job expectations, and understand the Simmons culture.
Develop an atmosphere that allows for open communication and trust.
Develop Training Materials: Develop work tools such as standardized training plans, assessments, data gathering systems, qualification measurements and success rates that ensure team members are successful in their job.
Lead People Champions: Provide direction and leadership for People Champions.
Serve as a liaison between People Champions and Training Manager.
Collaborate with HR and People Champions to ensure team members are trained and retained.
Collect training qualification and other data from People Champions.
Create Work Documents: Ensure work instructions are written using TWI training standards.
Write job breakdowns, deliver job breakdowns and adhere to training timetables.
Evaluate work instructions to ensure operators are performing operations as stated.
Coordinate with Continuous Improvement: Work closely with plant Continuous Improvement to ensure the sustainability of lean efforts by helping support team members learn a standard way of conducting their daily job responsibilities.
Partner with production in process reviews, time studies and development of Work Instructions.
Assess Learning Experience: Monitor the training process to determine if a new team member is receiving the best possible training and position based on his/her skillset
Participate as a member of the Team.
Participate in the ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies.
Coordinate work to ensure best practices with all team members.
Attend appropriate team meetings.
Foster strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues.
Accept responsibility to quickly identify areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a positive manner to resolve issues, reinforce actions needed, and achieve synergy within the larger organization.
Simmons Operating systems principles and objectives: Is familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems; understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and continuous improvement ideas.

Physical Activities: Enters and locates information on a computer.
Visually verifies information, often in small print.
Communicates with customers, vendors, or team members via phone, in person, and/or electronic mail.
May present information to small or large groups.
Must be able to work in various temperatures and move about in a manufacturing environment and surrounding property.
May travel to various work locations.
Light to moderate physical effort required.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Will use waterproof footwear, gloves, apron, hearing protection, hair net(s) or other protective equipment as needed or required.
Travel: May travel to other facilities as necessary and work different shifts as needed.
Technical Experience: Minimum related one year experience.
Experience in the execution of TWI training and development.
Preference for Instructional Design experience.
Must have the ability to develop, train and implement SWI’s (Standard Work Instructions), work process and flow documents for training and development.
Basic computer experience required.
Must be able to work without direct supervision.
Industry Experience: Preference for poultry, pet food, protein or food processing organization.
Minimum Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
The ability to read and understand training material and policies.
Proficient in English, both written and spoken.
Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
Preferred Education: Associates or Bachelors degree
