5K JOB SUMMARY The Tax Manager is a key member to the Corporate Tax Department and is responsible for a variety of tax compliance duties.
She/he will provide strategic guidance on various compliance responsibilities including sales and use tax, property tax, and other state tax reporting requirements.
She/he will serve as a technical resource for sales and use tax to all wholly owned operating companies and assist with registration for newly acquired acquisitions.
She/he will help develop strategic roadmaps to improve the overall compliance responsibilities of the company.
She/ he will continuously evaluate process improvements and communicate new tax reporting rules to key stakeholders.
She/he must demonstrate strong team building skills, excellent communications skills, and leadership skills to meet reporting deadlines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Project/Business Responsibilities: Ownership of the Sales & Use tax filings of CoolSys entities and lead the transition to compliance filings for all acquired CoolSys entities.
Provide technical guidance on various sales tax inquires to operations and the sales tax team Provide update to stakeholders and oversight of sales and use tax payments at C&I, CLC and PS.
Serve as technical liaison for tax engines use by the Company (currently Vertex and Avalara) Assist with and provide technical guidance on integration of new tax engine software and other support to various operating entities.
Coordinate new entity registrations as part of acquisition process and ensure current entities are properly registered in required jurisdictions as the operating companies continue to expand.
Serve as the primary lead on sales tax audits for all wholly owned CoolSys entities Assist in development of a centralized compliance department.
Assist in development of process improvements, standardization and streamlining of tax compliance with the goal of legal consolidation and eventually one ERP system.
Leverage the use of technology for compliance reporting, managing customer exemption certificates, purchaser exemption certificates, automation of reconciliation process, etc.
People Responsibilities: Develop staff through coaching, counseling, and guidance with clear expectations.
Evaluate and assess skills of staff and identify opportunities for growth and development.
Ensure annual development plans are written and performance assessments are completed.
Redistribute workloads as required to ensure reporting deadlines are met.
Hire and train new staff as required.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Project/Business Management: Experience Managing Sales & Use tax filings in a multi-state environment, with construction industry experience a plus Experience with registration of new entities, managing sales tax audit, and the ability to research new tax rules Experience managing tax payments, reporting timelines, compliance decision matrix, and supervisory experience of associates College degree in accounting, finance or similar experience, and CPA a plus but not required Ability to manage multiple assignments, setting and balancing competing priorities with strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
Ability to understand and follow all company policies and procedures and all applicable State and local tax rules Ability to use typical business tools including E-Mail, Word, Advance Excel, Sales Tax software, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, etc.
People Management: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience communicating to senior leadership/c-suite level Strong customer service skills, including an ability to proactively address internal and external customer issues and concerns and ability to forge strong working relationships with various departments.
