Plant Manager Job Description
*Title:* Plant Manager

*Wage Status:* Exempt.
Pay based on experience.
*Job Summary: *Accountable for overall production, facility maintenance and safety.
Responsible for timely and quality production in accordance with established company goals and objectives.
*Duties and Responsibilities* Management * Active participant in Management Team meetings and management committees, including production, sales, and quality.
* Accountable for current production technology and product quality relative to customer requirements and industry benchmarks.
* Advises on anticipated technical, production, and quality trends in current and future casting markets.
* Advises on improvements to plant, processes, and personnel required to meet such trends.
Production * Accountable for the general operations of the facility.
* Identifies technical and production problems through daily liaison with the foundry manager, the quality manager, production leads/supervisors, and shop floor personnel.
* Works with the foundry manager, the quality manager, production leads/supervisors, and shop floor personnel to improve productivity and quality and reduce costs, while maintaining a safe working environment.
* Accountable for updating operating procedures as required by improvements to processes or changes to practices.
* Provides support to the foundry manager and direction to the production leads/supervisors regarding staffing levels in all areas of the plant.
* Meets with foundry manager daily to discuss safety, quality, and overall productivity of the foundry operations.
* Meets with the production planner/scheduler and leads/supervisors at least once a week to discuss scheduling issues.
* Accountable for maintaining a production schedule as required to uphold commitments for on-time delivery of quality castings from the company.
* Accountable for implementing Lean Manufacturing principles including a 5S Housekeeping Strategy throughout the plant.
* Provides feedback on methods regarding quality and processing issues and participates in the development of quality improvements and casting inspection requirements.
* Works with the quality manager and productions leads/supervisors to determine final disposition of scrap castings and maintain accurate records.
* Provides feedback to sales regarding individual casting production time estimates.
* Compiles and distributes production metrics to track overall production progress towards operational goals.
* Other duties as assigned.
Maintenance * Works with the project manager to investigate, analyze, and make recommendations for capital equipment and/or facility expenditures and an active participant in negotiations for the acquisition thereof.
* Responsible for investigating, analyzing, and making recommendations for large repair projects and an active participant in negotiations for the acquisition thereof.
Human Resources * In consultation with the general manager, foundry manager, and HR; responsible for interviewing, hiring, and the continuous evaluation of shop floor supervisory personnel.
* Provides credit, merit, and discipline consistently and in compliance with policy and our employee handbook.
Safety * Responsible for plant safety in accordance with all applicable OSHA regulations.
* Responsible for making continuous improvements to our Safety program.
Quality Assurance * Aids in the ISO 9001 audit if required by the quality manager.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Ability to plan, organize, measure and lead.
* Ability to communicate effectively with excellent interpersonal skills.
* Ability to analyze and problem solve.
* Ability to develop and motivate people while maintaining a positive work environment.
* Demonstrates a high sense of urgency and commitment.
Credentials and Experience * 5 to 8 years related manufacturing, production, or foundry experience.
* Degree in Operational Management or Manufacturing; or equivalent.
* Experience with safety programs and OSHA regulations.
* Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent.
*Physical Demands* The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
