Missouri Southern State University, having a statewide mission in Health and Life Sciences, recently approved by the Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education is seeking candidates for a 10-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Food Science and Nutrition (Food Science Coordinator/Title III Grant) in the Department of Kinesiology.
The position will begin on August 1, 2024.
Food Science and Nutrition is a new program and is seeking a faculty member/Coordinator who is innovative and collaborative to coordinate and oversee the development as well as pilot the program.
The Food Science and Nutrition program will be affiliated with the MSSU Lion Co-op Center for Nutrition Security, researching ways to improve nutrition security by improving access to food through 1) federal programs 2) local farmers and markets and by 3) improving methods of production and technology.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and teach undergraduate courses in food processing, food microbiology, food chemistry and analysis and related areas within Food Science.
- Contribute actively to curriculum development, innovation in pedagogy, and program enhancement.
- Engage in scholarly activity that is relevant to the field of food science and nutrition.
- Participate in departmental and university service, such as committee assignments, academic advising, and degree recruitment.
Qualifications:
- A Ph.
D.
in Food Science and Nutrition, or a closely related field is preferred; however, faculty candidates for coordinator, at a minimum, will hold a master’s degree with at least three years of higher education instructional experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior teaching experience at the university level; minimum of three years.
- Experience in industry or applied research within the food science and nutrition domain.
- Professional certifications or affiliations related to food safety, processing, or microbiology.
