The Department of Art in the College of Arts and Sciences at Pittsburg State University invites applications for a tenure-earning position in Art Education, Studio Art and Gallery.
Duties and Responsibilities Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate courses in K-12 Art Education theory and practice, Primary and Secondary Methods of Art Education ad Supervision of pre-service teachers as well as teaching of Studio area within their expertise.
Additional responsibilities will include assisting with gallery management and arts community development for Porter Hall’s 3 gallery spaces.
Other Service duties may include mentoring students, participation in departmental reviews, student recruitment, service to the department, college, university, and community, for example those committee’s related to the art education emphasis as it interfaces with the College of Education and its programs, continual development of the art education emphasis and providing support to other institutional efforts.
Education and Experience Required Education and Experience – Time of Hire: PhD in Art Education with studio experience or MFA in a related visual art discipline from an accredited institution of higher learning and teaching experience beyond graduate TA level.
Candidates must have K-12 educational system art teaching experience and familiarity with a variety of traditional studio materials and methods.
Candidates should have a strong commitment to teaching along with the ability and desire to develop a scholarly research program commensurate with the expectations of the department.
Additionally, applicants should have a willingness to develop courses as needed to keep Department of Art Curriculum up to date.
Preferred Education and Experience: Evidence of and commitment to undergraduate teaching and mentoring.
The ideal candidate will have a terminal degree and at least two years of successful college/university level teaching experience in art education pedagogy and studio, as well as leadership experience in community arts/ gallery programming.
