Independence Community College (ICC) seeks applications for the position of Supplemental Instructor.
Position Summary The college is seeking a team-oriented professional for the position of Supplemental Instructor to provide supplemental instruction to students in a variety of subjects, including College Algebra, English and Biology.
The position will include SI sessions that include a wide variety of interactive learning strategies, overseeing study groups and implementing problem solving with students in alignment with the course instructors.
Qualifications Minimum of a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of a 3.
0 GPA from an institution accredited by a nationally recognized accreditation agency required, with a minimum of one year teaching or supplemental instruction experience preferred; familiarity with “at-risk” disadvantaged students, developmental studies, computer-assisted instruction, learning style modalities, and utilization of interactive tutoring.
Either a copy of, or authorization for, a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) is required.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of a Supplemental Instructor.

Position generally requires light work with occasional lifting of 20 pounds or more, carrying supplies, equipment.
The job requires varying amounts of sitting, climbing, kneeling, standing, and walking.

It also requires constant hand grasp and finger dexterity; extended standing, walking and repetitive leg and arm movements; occasional bending; reaching forward, side-to-side, downward, and overhead; and squatting and kneeling.
The ability to communicate verbally with an excellent comprehension of the English language is essential.

Work is generally performed in an indoor setting, with some hours worked after 5pm and on weekends.

Primary Responsibilities 1.
Attend the targeted classes and take notes.
2.
Build relationships with ICC Faculty, including ascertain course requirements and maintain contact with course professor throughout the term.
3.
Actively recruit participants for SI sessions.
4.
Conduct a full 50-minute weekly session for each of your assigned sections throughout the term.
5.
Be prepared and be on time for each SI session.
6.
Be familiar with campus resources available to students.
7.
Plan SI sessions using a wide variety of interactive learning strategies (without reteaching, lecturing, or completing students’ assignments for them) in alignment with the course instructors.
8.
Prepare handouts, informal quizzes, and other learning aids for SI sessions.
9.
Always maintain a professional attitude, including that toward matters such as class standards, grades and student complaints.
10.
Attend scheduled SI leader training meetings.
11.
Collect attendance data for every session; including student names, course title, date and time of session.
12.
Assist in the preparation of end-of-term reports and other reports as requested.
General Responsibilities 1.
Assist in scheduling SI sessions; monitor and support academic success center activities, as needed.
2.
Tutor participants in both developmental and transfer track courses.
3.
Attend and participate in required training sessions throughout the semester.
4.
Provide a positive learning environment committed to ICC student success by being receptive to various learning styles found in the comprehensive community college setting and assure equal access to program services for all qualified students.
5.
Collaborative, collegial, and responsible work habits.
6.
High degree of ethical standards, including adherence to general rules of safety, College procedures, and fair labor standards.

One year of experience teaching and/or Supplemental Instruction preferred.

Ability to work with multiple students in one setting daily.
4.
Content area expertise in the assigned field of Supplemental Instruction.
5.
Interest in imparting knowledge to others.
6.
Electronic media literacy and ability to use a variety of instructional media, as necessary.
7.
Familiarity with “at-risk” disadvantaged students, developmental studies, computer-assisted instruction, learning style modalities, and utilization of interactive supplemental instruction preferred.
8.
Experience in overcoming barriers like those encountered by first generation, low-income students and students with disabilities preferred.
9.
Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and community.
10.
Ability to drive and possession of current valid driver’s license.
11.
Sensitivity to diverse learning styles and developmental needs.
12.
High degree of organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple deadlines, tasks, projects, and assignments.
