Independence Community College Position Announcement Summer Head Resident Assistant for Upward Bound Program Independence Community College (ICC) seeks application for a Summer Head Resident Assistant for the Upward Bound Program position.
Upward Bound is funded 100% by the U.
S.
Department of Education.
Position Summary The Head Resident Assistant (Head RA) lives in the residence hall with the Upward Bound participants (local high school students) and report to all Upward Bound staff.
This is a seasonal overnight position beginning May 22nd and ending June 27th.
Housing and meals costs for the Head RA are covered by the Upward Bound program while they are working on campus.
The Head RA provides support to the RAs and Activities Assistant (AA), assists them in coordinating all housing-related activities, serves as a positive role model, supervises, sets up and provides leadership in implementing activities.
The Head Resident Assistant is not required to attend the end-of-program trip.
Compensation $2800 Qualifications · Bachelor’s degree preferred, but will consider current degree-seeking students with their Associate degree and at least two years on-campus housing experience · Must have a valid driver’s license · Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal and leadership skills · Must demonstrate a sensitivity to, and strong interest working with, educationally and economically disadvantaged students · Prefer a grade point average of 3.
0 or above · Prefer a person with background similar to that of target population Primary Responsibilities · Attend resident assistant training in person on 05/22-05/23 and regular staff meeting during the summer program · Reside in the residence hall and respond to emergencies as necessary.
The Head RA will move into the dorms before the students do (move in date TBD).
Final checkout is after the last student leaves on 06/27.
· Coordinate weekly check-in and check-out procedures · Take part in weekly rotation of night supervision · Ensures students are awake and escorts them to breakfast each morning · Takes attendance and ensures students are where they are supposed to be throughout the day · Maintain and enforce curfews and conduct room checks as needed · Monitor dinner and additional meals if necessary · Follow and enforce ICC and Upward Bound policies and procedures · Supervise and engage with participants · Provides additional support and leadership to the RAs and AA.
Work closely with the RAs, Upward Bound staff, and AA to execute and supervise all recreational, educational, and cultural activities · Travel with Upward Bound staff and participants and transport participants to and from appointments and activities as needed · Maintain accurate documentation · Serve as a positive role model for all Upward Bound participants · Perform other duties as assigned Primary Functions · Ability to communicate effectively with participants, staff, and community · Assure timeliness of reports and communications with information management skills · Collaborative, collegial, and responsible work habits · High degree of ethical standards, including adherence to general rules of safety, confidentiality, procedures, and fair labor standards · Commitment to high professional standard, including professional growth · Time management skills and a high degree of organizational skills · Ability to manage multiple deadlines, tasks, projects and assignments Working Conditions/Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the Head Summer Resident Assistant for the Upward Bound Program position.

· Position generally requires light work with occasional lifting of up to (30) pounds or more, carrying supplies, equipment · This position requires the ability to sit or stand or walk for extended and various periods of time.
