*Primary Purpose:*
The Administrative Assistant is responsible for utilizing a basic working knowledge of the Learning center billing system, all office functions and is responsible for facilitating communication and completing work assignments pertaining to general behaviors listed below.
Responsible for following all KDHE regulations, Sonshine Childcare Center policies and procedures.
Maintains a safe environment for children and staff.
Communicates respectfully and appropriately with children based on age and development stage.
Communicates effectively with parent/legal guardian about his/her child.
Attends and obtains required training and certifications appropriate for position.
*Qualifications: *
*Education/Experience:*
BA or BS in child development or early childhood education including a practicum and 3 months teaching experience in licensed center or preschool, or BA or BS in related field plus 12 hours of college Credit in early childhood and 6 months’ teaching experience in licensed center or preschool.
*Special Knowledge/Skills: *
* Thorough understanding of childcare center operations
* Strong organizational, communication, public relations, computer and interpersonal skills
* Ability to coordinate center functions
* Ability to implement policy and procedures
* Knowledge and implementation of Kansas childcare guidelines and state licensing
* Comprehensive knowledge and proven success implementing programs for children based on developmentally appropriate practices
* Accepts and respects differences in children, parents and coworkers
* Ability to manage a budget
*Major Responsibilities and Duties: *
*Instructional Management *

Maintain, at all times, high quality childcare standards based on developmentally appropriate practices.
*Personnel Management:*

Supervise all staff members of the childcare center.
*Management of Fiscal, Administrative, and Facilities Functions:*

Implement policies and procedures for the operation of the childcare center.
4.
Assure consistent compliance with all Kansas DHE Minimum Standards, including maintenance of annual fire, health and other inspections.
5.
Oversee the maintenance of files according to KDHE requirements.
6.
Maintain open, consistent and effective communication with parents, providing parent education training, assistance and support as needed.
7.
Provide reliable, accurate and timely information about the childcare center to interested parties.

Attend professional development seminars to maintain an understanding of the current best practices of curriculum and administrative functions of child development programs.
*School or Community Relations: *
9.
Articulate the center’s mission to employees and other stakeholders and solicit support in realizing the mission.

Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
11.
Represent the center in a professional, courteous and positive manner at all times.
12.
Promote a positive, caring climate for learning for staff, students, and parents.
13.
Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Communicate effectively staff, students and their families.
