Community Planner Job Description

Position: Community Planner
Employment Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Community Planner to join our team.
The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in coordinating comprehensive planning projects, implementing economic development strategies, and fostering community partnerships.
This position requires a dynamic individual with excellent communication skills, grant writing experience, and a commitment to community development.
Essential Functions: Project Coordination: * Lead comprehensive planning projects for multiple communities.
* Conduct public meetings and presentations.
* Design comprehensive plan documents using narratives, images, maps, and graphics.
* Utilize knowledge of general planning concepts, land use, GIS, and relevant planning statutes.
Economic Development: * Assist in implementing the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS).
* Facilitate CEDS Committee meetings and collaborate on economic development projects.
* Demonstrate knowledge of business finance, state and local incentives, and relevant economic development programs.
Grant Management: * Explore, apply, prepare, and administer various grants.
* Exhibit excellent research and writing skills.
* Identify grant-eligible projects for economic development and ensure communities capitalize on funding opportunities.
Relationship Building: * Establish and maintain effective relationships with state and federal government agencies and private sector partners.
* Attend City Council Meetings and engage regularly with mayors and community members.
* Act as a liaison between the organization and local stakeholders.
Administrative Responsibilities: * Develop, plan, organize, and administer policies and procedures.
* Coordinate meetings, set deadlines, and monitor activities involving external parties.
* Keep own office and common areas organized and cleaned.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Self-Management/Leadership: * Action Orientation, Self-Knowledge, Perseverance, Creativity, Priority Setting.
Technical Skills: * Community Engagement.

* Minimum Qualifications: Education: * BA/BS in public administration, non-profit administration, planning, economic development, or related field preferred but not required.
* Experience: Prior experience with project management and grants preferred.
* Other: Experience with Microsoft Suite, comfortable with standard office equipment, valid driver’s license, and auto insurance Work Environment: Hybrid Working: * Maintain a hybrid working schedule, combining office and remote work.
* Attend evening City Council Meetings and be present in the community regularly.
