Position Purpose:
Financial Controller is responsible for the operational direction, coordination of all activities, and administration of the Casino Accounting function.
This position has direct supervision of Revenue Audit, Accounting, and Accounts Payable.
This function will include the management of the Revenue Audit functions of Slots, Tables, and Food and Beverage.
The Financial Controller will assist in the preparation and distribution of Flashes and Daily Operating Reports.
The Financial Controller is accountable for the review of daily audits, the preparation and/or posting of daily journals and the month end closing process of Buffalo Run Casino & Resort.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Hire, train, develop, measure performance, discipline, and schedule department staff.
Lead the tactical execution of strategic initiatives under the direction of division, leadership.
Establish standards of service within assigned department(s) and ensure achievement.
Monitor and control labor within the department while maintaining adequate coverage in the department based on business demands.
Accountable for compliance with the standards of the regulatory agencies and for assisting internal and external auditors.
Coordinates and ensures the accurate presentation of detailed daily, weekly, monthly, and annual financial statements.
Provides timely and accurate analysis of operating statistics & financial reports that will assist Directors in operating their departments in an effective and efficient manner.
Completes the month end journal entries and the closing process requirements in an effective, efficient, and timely manner.
Reviews and analyzes month end General Ledger reconciliation and documentation.
Produces financial statement analysis reports of trends and budget variances.
Prepares financial statements, financial reports, special analyses, and informational reports; presents recommendations for changes related to the operational divisions.
Ensures accounting processes financial reports are in compliance with GAAP.
Assists Director of Finance in the formulation, compilations, and presentation of budgets.
Assists Director of Finance in financial and regulatory audits.
Ensures compliance with Tribal, Federal, and State reporting requirements.
Applies positive communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills with all team members.
Monitors the purchasing and receiving functions to ensure the management of assets and processes related to inventories including inventory management systems are maintained with accuracy and that related reporting requirements meets assigned timelines.
Assists the Director of Finance in preparing and entry of all general ledger entries required for month end closing; including but not limited to payroll, depreciation, general expenses, liabilities, accruals, etc.
Performs additional duties as assigned and necessary.
Education/Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years old.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Economics, or Finance.
Knowledge of Gaming and National Indian Gaming Controls and Procedures preferred.
Knowledge of accounting practices including general ledger, audit, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and casino accounting.
Six or more years in accounting and financial analysis experience.
CPA or MBA preferred.
Licensing:
Must be able to obtain and maintain the required Gaming License.
